House-group Meetings @ St. James'

2010 Programme

Housegroups :  ‘Christianity & Collapsing Culture’...

Did you notice that an amendment to the Equality Bill to protect the religious liberty of churches was voted down, by 314 to 170 votes, in the House of Commons, on Wednesday 2nd December, 2009? This is just one of many examples of the challenges Christians face in our increasingly secularised culture. As Archbishop John Sentamu has so graphically said: “Asking someone to leave their belief in God at the door of their workplace is akin to asking them to remove their skin colour before coming into the office. Faith in God is not an add-on or optional extra.”

Members of our morning group will be starting the New Year by addressing the question: “What does it mean to declare Christian truth and demonstrate Christian compassion in a society that at times appears hostile to Christianity?” We will be expertly guided in this enquiry by Lyndon Bowring, who has been Executive Chairman of CARE for twenty-five years. He is ably assisted by his talented wife Celia. Between them they will address the issues of Human Dignity & Human Trafficking, Religious Freedoms, Rights & Responsibilities, and Marriage & the Family. These topics concern us all, so don’t miss the opportunity to join us in our studies.

Our evening group will begin the New Year by continuing their study of ‘The Book of Proverbs’ under the excellent leadership of Vaughan Roberts. King Solomon probably wrote this as a textbook in the tenth century BC, but it is just as relevant to our culture in the 21st century AD. Christians certainly need the ‘Wisdom of Solomon’ to survive in our increasingly secularised culture. If you missed this study with the morning group, don’t miss this second opportunity; you are welcome to join us. The programme for both groups is:
