Sunday Club @ St. James'

Welcome to St James' Sunday Club for all Children up to 11yrs old

Sunday Club meets in the Church Centre on the 2nd, 4th & 5th Sunday of the month during term time. We start at 10.45 am and finish in church at the end of the morning service.  On 1st and 3rd Sundays, parents and children can worship together at our regular Family services. Church Family Communion is at 11.00am on 1st Sunday with Family Service (no Communion) at 9.30am on 3rd Sunday.

Sunday Club welcomes children of all ages, from just born upwards.  The crèche, known as ‘Gems’ caters for babies and toddlers up to three years of age.  There are three other groups for older children – ‘Pebbles’ (from age 3 years to school year ‘Reception’), ‘Rocks’ (school years 1, 2 and 3), and ‘Boulders’ (school years 4, 5 and 6).  The bigger the stone, the older the group!  When the children reach year 7 (secondary school age) they can come along to our Youth Group (which meets on Sunday evenings at 7.30pm), join the team of Servers in Church or help the adult leaders working with the younger groups. Leaders prepare activities for each week, using material from the ‘Living Stones’ and ‘Roots’ books. The theme for each week will normally be the same as that followed in church.

Letters at the start of each term will let you know of any forthcoming events.  Once or twice a term we have ‘special’ weeks where the children have activities all together. These may involve crafts, games, videos etc, enabling us to do something a little different, and hopefully combine lots of fun with an opportunity to learn. The children are also encouraged to contribute to a weekly collection in aid of Rashmi, our sponsored child in India.

Parents are welcome to stay with their child initially to help them settle in. If you are interested in becoming involved on a more regular basis please talk to one of the leaders. For safety reasons we would normally have two adult leaders per group, who are ‘on duty’ two or three times per term. This means we need quite a large team of leaders to operate effectively and well.

And lastly, what do we hope to achieve at Sunday Club?  Well, we aim to make it enjoyable, fun, something the children will want to come to regularly.  We want them to feel part of the church, that they belong and are an important part of the church community.  And then, we hope that through a mixture of teaching, activities, games and by example, they gain an understanding of Christianity, learn about the love of Christ, and begin to sow the seeds of their adult faith.

Don’t hesitate to ask any of the leaders if you have any queries or would like more information.  We look forward to welcoming you to Sunday Club.
